What to do

Teach students about simple choice making strategies that can be applied to different situations. Encourage them to stop, think and weigh up the choices that are best for a situation. Young people often struggle to predict risk accurately. They tend to over estimate their own abilities and skills at dealing with tricky situations. They often under estimate the impact of peers on decision making.

You can share the slides or task cards with pairs or small groups of students. Give each grouping a few of the scenarios. Ask them to talk about the scenario and plan how to answer the questions. Extend the learning by bringing the group back together to talk about the solutions and ideas they had for each scenario. Use a slideshow or Easel for digital learning, or the printable task cards for easy print and go use in the classroom.
