About the Role 
The role of the Classroom Support Assistant is to support the Classroom Teacher in providing quality learning experiences for all students with a focus on providing class supervision while the Teacher provides required support to students where needed. The CSA is directly responsible to the Leader of Inclusive Learning

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate initiative, liaise and work collaboratively with class teachers to provide learning support for students.
  • Assist students as directed by class teacher, either in supervision of the class (while teacher focuses on student/s requiring support), 1:1 situation or small group, within view of class teacher.
  • Support students by listening, directing, explaining, reassuring, encouraging, re-directing and reinforcing.
  • Prepare specialised learning materials as directed by the teacher and as required to implement the class teacher’s program.
  • Under direction, taking students for their individualised education plans in specific areas, supporting personal care needs, and reporting to teachers on student progress.
  • Supervising of groups of students other than in a classroom situation
  • Working in collaboration with teachers in the implementation of learning and teaching strategies for an individual student, groups of students or class.
  • Support students in whole school activities such as sporting events and attend professional learning and staff spirituality days. 

Essential Criteria 

  • Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration
  • Certificate IV in Classroom Learning support ( or currently studying) highly desirable
  • An understanding of and commitment to Catholic education.
  • A willingness to contribute to the community life of the school.
  • An ability to assist in the implementation of an effective model of service to support teachers in the classroom
  • An understanding and appreciation of the learning and social needs of such students and their families.
