Five Islands Secondary College has an enrolment of approximately 275 students, including 14 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It is a unique public school in the Illawarra, providing a range of educational opportunities for students studying in Years 10, 11, 12 and Big Picture Stage 5 and 6. It has four Special Education classes which cater for the needs of internalising students. Five Islands Secondary College has a culture of high expectations and provides a supportive framework to achieve both academic and vocational success. The college is dynamic in responding to the needs of students and building strong relationships so as to maximise engagement in learning. This position is for a Head Teacher Special Education. The role will involve overseeing four Special Education classes (2 ED/BD/MCC) for students with a confirmed disability. The Unit assists students who have anxiety and/or other mental health difficulties to re-engage with their learning. It is anticipated that students will be able to transition from the support class; either back to their home school or Five Islands Secondary College. The position also includes the supervision of the Technology and Applied Science Faculty within the college.
