What are the ultimate goals of schooling?

Imagine, if you can , a beehive where its super-conscientious workers are labouring tirelessly. Imagine you had the opportunity to interview one random bee. There would be no doubting his endeavour and dedication, even though he would have little idea of where he fitted in to the whole hive operation.

My contention is that many schools are like this beehive.
