Making connections: DigiTech Across the Curriculum

The Digital Technologies curriculum is anchored in real world problem solving and design, and offers plenty of opportunities to explore a wide range of subjects. In this day of collaborative learning and planning we will explore how a range of digital technologies can be used to explore many subjects. You'll do some coding, hear examples of cross curricular projects, and have the chance to think about how you can make links across the curriculum.

Date December 10, 2018 - December 10, 2018
Time 10:00am - 2:30pm

Schedule:

10AM-10.45AM- MAKING CONNECTIONS

Hear from teachers who have created cross curricular projects with digital technologies.

10.45AM-11.00AM-

MORNING TEA

11.00AM - 12.15PM -

PHYSICAL TECH AND CODING (CHOOSE ONE)

SESSION PA: Primary years - Physical tech with block-based coding

Use a visual language (similar to Scratch) to code small demonstration projects with the BBC micro:bit plus electronic sensors and actuators. A hands-on introduction to connecting microcontrollers to the real world. Note, principles covered are relevant to other tools like Hummingbird or Arduino.

SESSION SA: Secondary years - Physical tech with Python coding

Use Python (a general purpose programming language) to code small demonstration projects with the BBC micro:bit plus electronic sensors and actuators. A hands-on introduction to connecting microcontrollers to the real world. Note, principles covered are relevant to other tools like Hummingbird or Arduino.

12.15-1.00PM

 LUNCH

1.00 - 2.15pm REAL WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING (CHOOSE ONE)

SESSION PB: Primary years - Using Digital Technologies in the real world

Engage with a cross-curricular design process for creating digital solutions, and explore numerous digital tools for the classroom.

SESSION SB: Secondary years - Designing real-world solutions

Practice a design process for creating digital solutions from Analysis and Design through to Development and Evaluation. Explore and collaborate on making the most of digital technologies in other learning areas across the curriculum.
