Are you passionate about supporting young people? The Department of Education in the North Queensland region is looking for Social Workers to join our school-based wellbeing team. If you are interested in becoming a part of this exciting new early-intervention service and making an incredible difference in the lives of young people in an educational setting, then this is the role for you.

As part of the Queensland Government's $106.7 million Student Wellbeing Package, we are increasing the number of wellbeing professionals working in state schools and education regions across Queensland. By June 2024, employment of additional wellbeing professionals through this initiative will ensure every Queensland state school student has access to support for their wellbeing at school.

Your Role:

The focus of the role is to provide support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns based in Doomadgee, with opportunity to provide support to wider Gulf community. Wellbeing professionals employed through the Student Wellbeing Package work as part of schools' established student support teams to enhance the wellbeing and mental health support available to students. This is a dynamic, school-based role and there are opportunities to provide service through a tele-practice mode and flexibility to working arrangements. Some of the positions bring opportunity for travel and outreach to rural and remote settings to support our most vulnerable communities in the North Queensland region.

As the Senior Social Worker, you will:

• Operate in an advisory and advocacy capacity providing professional services specific to the social work discipline.
• Respond to the needs of the student population and school community to provide personal and family counselling, therapy and group work, facilitation for referrals to other allied health professionals, and service and care, coordination for the purpose of assisting student's wellbeing and mental health.
• Provide professional supervision, leadership and support to school social workers within the region to develop their capability and clinical skills.

Doomadgee State School is a remote school that offers learning experiences for students from Pre-Prep to Year 10. We are a co-educational school and we cater for students with a diverse range of learning needs and interests. We are located 100 km west of Burketown in Far North West Queensland in the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire. The Doomadgee community is predominantly made up of Gangalidda, Garrawa and Waanyi first peoples of Australia.
