The Kauri Museum invites you to take a step back in time and discover the story behind one of the makers of modern New Zealand: Joseph Gordon Coates.
Tall and handsome, this affable war hero embodied modernity - he was the "jazz premier" of New Zealand politics. Following a 1925 presidential-style election campaign, voters chose to take their "Coats off with Coates", just three years later they hung him out to dry. The Kauri Museum is proud to present a special exhibition exploring the extraordinary life and achievements of this local hero, war hero and national hero: Joseph Gordon Coates, the man who got things done.
